"Cowgirls" will return to take photos for their official 2016 calendar

Para hacer locaciones de su calendario oficial 2016

Lanrry PARRA
The Director of Tourism, Gustavo Rodríguez Orozco, announced that the cheerleaders for the Dallas Cowboys plan to do a photo shoot in Isla Mujeres in 2015, for the second consecutive year. That shoot will be for their official calendar for 2016.
Their calendar for 2015, which was made this year in 2014, featured the attractions of Isla Mujeres. It was presented a few days ago in Houston, Texas, before the international media.
For the next calendar photo shoot, they will not only include Isla Mujeres, but also Isla Contoy, which is also known as Isla de los Pájaros, (Isle of birds), about five miles north of Isla Mujeres. In 2015, they will take photographs in Cancun, Puerto Morelos, Isla Mujeres, Isla Contoy, and Isla Holbox to be featured in the 2016 Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders  calendar.
The tourism director said he believes they will arrive in Isla Mujeres and Isla Contoy on approximately the same dates they did in 2014, and this international event will be coordinated with the OVC, whose director is Jesus Almaguer.

Busca la Federación de Cooperativas

Lanrry PARRA
The president of the Federation of Fishermen Cooperatives in the state, Baltazar Gomez Catzin said there is a need to change the terms of help that the seamen receive year to year, and he has submitted several proposals to the officials of SAGARPA.
The assistance program for replacement of boat engines, has rules regarding the renewals every five years, but the motors work fine for three years, and then they need repairs, parts, and stop working. There is a rule that says the seamen must pay their portion with their own money, and cannot use credit, which puts some fishermen at a disadvantage.
He said there is a need to modify rules so the independent fishermen with permits can benefit, and not just the members of the cooperatives. He said the cooperatives need support to improve their infrastructure, including the areas where they bring in the catches and the freezers. The fishermen need support during the ban on lobster fishing in the form of  temporary employment programs.
The fishermen also ask that CONAPESCA keep its promise to help them gain access to other forms of support.

"This work was undertaken in response to instructions from the Mayor, Agapito Magana Sanchez, to ensure that the remains of our loved ones are in a place that is clean and dignified, in order to best celebrate them with love and respect on the 1st & 2nd of November, which are very important dates in terms of our traditions", he said.
The  Dirección de Gobierno (Governmental Director), Sebastián Escobedo, invited everyone who brings offerings and decorations, and who have activities for Dia de los Muertos, to remember that they are responsible for removing all trash on later visits, to continue to maintain the dignity of our cemeteries.

Photographs were on social media of a turtle nest that was found with the babies hatching out, and they were rescued by observers. Their fate is unknown, and it is believed the hatchlings may have been taken to the Tortugranja facility in Sac Bajo. This took place this weekend in a beach at the northern part of Isla Mujeres, where a youth noticed them hatching out.
Before this, two weeks ago, there were two incidences of nests hatching out in the Sac Bajo area, of which one was by the Villa Rolandi hotel, with 15 hatchlings. Another case was recorded of turtles who hatched out on the east side of the isle, near Colegio Bachilleres, that were rescued by an Island family.
It is estimated that there were over 500 turtles who were born outside the premises of the Tortugranja, whose presence was not detected by the Protection Program, and it is not known how many were lost or killed.

    0 29 de octubre de 2014
The Convention & Visitors Bureau of Cancun (OVC) did not make plans or assign resources for attendance of the DEMA Show. It is an annual event focused on diving, and this year it will be held in Las Vegas on Nov 19-22. Some entrepreneurs of Isla Mujeres are organizing a group to travel to the show and represent the Island. The event is dedicated to water sports and offers networking opportunities. It is organized by the "Diving Equipment and Marketing Association".
It is hoped that next year the OVC will make arrangements for attendance at the show, particularly for those seeking to promote swimming with the whale sharks.

0 29 de octubre de 2014  The Mayor, Agapito Sanchez Magana, announced that they have successfully received White Flag certification on the Playa Norte beach and the Posada beach. They have received approval from the Mexican Institute of Standardization and Certification, under the official regulations, whose director will visit the island to raise the two flags on November 13th. The mayor noted it was not easy to achieve this certification, which required compliance with various rules, as well as the installation of different security services, including the Tourist Police.
The mayor said this is the first step toward Blue Flag certification, whose work will begin in January. Internationally, there are 48 countries with Blue Flag beaches, and in Mexico there are only 11 locations with this designation, which include  Mazatlán, Los Cabos, Puerto Vallarta, and recently, Cancún.

Staff expresses complaints at General Hospital meeting

There was a meeting behind closed doors with  Raúl Aguilar Laguardia, administrative director administrativo of Sector Salud, and Raymundo Sánchez Canché, secretary general of the Asociación Norte of the Sindicato de Salud, with the staff of the General Hospital. Another meeting is planned for November 18, and some initial, internal agreements were reached, said Sr. Aguilar Laguardia.
It is reported that the hospital workers took this opportunity to air complaints and concerns,  and to allegedly request the resignations of the administrator of the General Hospital, Marinely Trejo, and its director, David Valenzo Loeza.  Staff members complained that the administrator does not distribute their gas vouchers, and that the director is often absent. They expressed complaints about the drops in electrical power which have damaged equipment such as sterilizers, and that there are water pumps which do not operated properly. There are complaints about medication shortages, from patients.

Professional studies in Isla Mujeres

An office for the Universidad Politécnica de Quintana Roo (Upqroo) may be opened next year in Isla Mujeres to help youths complete high school, according to the pastor of the Catholic Church, Raul Sanchez Alonzo. It will help the students prepare for careers in tourism and hotel culinary arts. According to the Human Resources departments of several upscale hotels in Isla Mujeres, the local workforce lacks qualifications, so the hotels continue to bring people to work here from Cancun, and at least 100 workers cross daily, displacing islanders. The Catholics are working with the local government and other groups, in hopes of realizing this plan.
